If you want a unique addition to your home, try this unusual, tropical house plant. Its pineapple fruits are ornamental (not edible), are instantly recognisable and will surely grab the attention of family and friends alike.
The Ornamental Pineapple Plant, Ananas Comosus, produces a unique rosette of dramatic, sword-like foliage. In summer, it produces cones of purple flowers that are followed by edible pineapple fruits which gradually grow up to 30cm (12”) tall after 7-8 months. Patience!
As a bonus, pineapple plants are members of the Bromeliad family and, like other Bromeliads, purify the air and remove harmful toxins from your home. So aside from being a unique addition to your home, they're healthy too!
